2019 Presentation Description

It is very satisfying to know the places one’s ancestors knew and to locate the homes where they once lived. “Cynefin” in Welsh means “habitat,” “environment”, or “sense of place.”

From 2014 to 2017, The National Library of Wales engaged volunteers working online in the Prosiect Cynefin to transcribe and link data on 1,100 Welsh tithe maps from the 1840s. Grant did the work for three parishes in Wales where his ancestors had resided. This gave him the background to use the Welsh tithe maps along with other digital mapping resources to locate the actual residences of Welsh families in the past.

Grant’s presentation will share information on how to use these resources to further research on your own families.
